Abrasive Minerals Storage and Conveying Solution
Integrated storage and conveying system for abrasive minerals, enabling efficient silo loading, controlled discharge and flexible bagging or bulk distribution.
Problem
A major EPCM (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management) contractor required a robust storage and conveying system for abrasive mineral materials. The project called for the efficient loading of nine high-capacity silos, while also providing controlled discharge to either bagging lines or bulk loading stations. Given the abrasive nature of the product and the scale of the installation, the solution needed to prioritise durability, reliable material flow and minimal product loss across multiple transfer points.

Solution
We provided design and supply support for a complete materials handling arrangement incorporating nine 125m³ silos and fourteen bucket elevators up to 25 metres in height. Materials were discharged via multiple slide gates onto a 45-metre reversing conveyor with a centre drive, allowing flexible feed to bagging or bulk loading stations. In addition, a 35-metre conveyor was engineered to operate beneath the silos, feeding in both directions through a centre drive configuration. A full-length skirt system was incorporated to minimise spillage and maintain transfer efficiency.

Outcome
The completed system delivered reliable, high-capacity storage and controlled conveying suited to abrasive mineral handling. Flexible reversing and bi-directional conveyor operation enabled efficient distribution to multiple downstream processes, while the integrated skirt design reduced product loss and housekeeping requirements. The result was a durable, streamlined solution aligned with the project’s operational and performance objectives.
